What is VISTA?

Americorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is an anti-poverty program designed to provide needed resources to nonprofit organizations and public agencies to increase their capacity to lift communities out of poverty. AmeriCorps VISTA provides opportunities for Americans 18 years or older from a diverse range of backgrounds to dedicate a year of full-time service with an organization to create or expand programs designed to empower individuals and communities in overcoming poverty.

 Our Project

The ORS VISTA project will build the capacity of the organization for expansion into a new target area by developing a public relations plan that will engage the community, and by researching, drafting, and submitting grant applications.

Community Relationships

The VISTA Community Relations Assistant will work with senior leadership to assess the current community partners of ORS, identify new targets for strategic partnerships, and engage new partners through the development of informational pieces in print and/or online.  He/she will also secure letters of support from community organizations that support the anti-poverty work of ORS, outlining their commitment to our work and their support of our programs.

Evidence-based Community Development

The VISTA Fundraising and Development Assistant will work with senior leadership to complete qualitative and quantitative research of the new target area, including identifying and analyzing points of data, to guide and inform the need for our new grant applications. He/she will also assist with drafting and completing grant applications that would support the expansion of ORS into the new target area.
